Know the materials before washing
FrostPet dog drying robes have a 100% polyester outer and a lining made from 85% viscose and 15% polyester. The printed outer provides color and durability, while the viscose-rich lining is selected for moisture absorption. Caring for both layers means using a gentle cycle, cool water and low heat.
Always check the care label attached to your actual garment because it is the final instruction for that product. The guidance here is for current FrostPet robe construction and should not override a label or special instructions supplied with a future design.
After each wet use
Do not leave the robe crumpled in a car, hamper or sealed travel bag. Open it fully, undo the fastening and hang it where air can reach both sides. If it was used after clean bathwater and is not dirty, thorough drying may be enough before the next use. After muddy walks, saltwater, lake water or a strong odor, wash it promptly.
Shake off loose sand, leaves and hair outdoors. Brush away dry mud gently rather than pushing grit deeper into wet fabric. Close or secure fasteners before machine washing so they do not catch on the lining or other laundry.
Machine-washing steps
Machine wash cold with similar colors on a gentle cycle. Use a small amount of mild detergent. Avoid bleach because it can damage fibers and alter print color. Avoid fabric softener because it can coat absorbent fibers and reduce their ability to take up water over time.
Do not overcrowd the machine. The robe needs space for water and detergent to move through both layers. Washing with lint-heavy cotton items can leave fibers on the robe, so a small load of similar pet textiles is preferable. An extra rinse may help if your dog has sensitive skin, but follow your machine instructions.

Drying without damaging the robe
Hang drying is the gentlest option. Spread the robe so the lining is exposed to moving air, then turn it if needed. Make sure seams and thicker folded areas are completely dry before storage. If the care label permits machine drying, tumble dry low. High heat can stress synthetic fibers, affect shape and set some stains.
Never place a damp robe directly on a radiator, near a campfire or against another intense heat source. Do not store it until it feels and smells fully dry. Persistent odor after washing can indicate trapped moisture; wash again and dry with better airflow.
Stains, hair and long-term storage
Treat stains soon. Rinse mud with cool water and apply a small amount of mild detergent before washing. Test any stain treatment on an inconspicuous area and avoid harsh solvents. A lint roller or soft brush can remove remaining hair after the robe is dry.
Inspect seams, edges and fasteners regularly. Stop using the robe if a damaged part could be chewed or swallowed. Store clean and dry in a breathable cupboard rather than a sealed plastic bag. Before a beach trip or camping weekend, wash early enough that the lining has time to dry completely.
Protecting absorbency over time
Keep a simple rotation if your dog swims or bathes frequently: one robe in use and one fully dry. Label pet-care laundry separately if someone in the household has allergies or sensitive skin. After washing, smell the neckline and thick seams before storage because these areas can retain moisture. If a clean robe develops an unusual odor, visible mildew, damaged fastening or persistent residue, stop using it until it has been properly cleaned or replaced.
The two biggest enemies of absorbency are residue and incomplete drying. Too much detergent, softener and dryer sheets can leave coatings; a packed washing machine may rinse poorly. Use modest detergent and periodically check whether water still spreads into the lining rather than beading on the surface.
With simple care, a robe can remain a reliable part of the bath and outdoor kit. Browse FrostPet dog robes to see the same washable construction across home, camping, Christmas and Halloween prints.
